    Hey there stranger,

In anticipation of the fancy new Infinite Best website, I’ve started a new Tumblr that will act in the future as both personal tumblr (expounding on the usual solipsistic blogfun of a music/fiction obsessed NYCer) as well as an outlet for Infinite Best’s more newsy type stuff.  The reasons for this are numerous, and detailed with great vigor in the introductory post, but the basic reasoning is, I want people to follow my blog and not have it be housed in the commercial confines of a label website… it will double as a news feed for the eventual label website, but that’s really only because I couldn’t possible keep up with TWO blogs.  The label is me, but I am not only the label, you know?  There is no spoon.  See you there!

Out of your dreams and into your hands- May 25th.

    Vinyl

    CD

Ok so The Other Side of Your Face kinda starts with a whip of grey wind, and there’s a throbbing hum and now some drums count us in and we’re off, and the rising sound is basically whirring around the center of this beat and then shimmering guitar chords are placed gently on top.  Andrea’s vocal comes in so everything hushes up real quick.  Oh man, she’s basically whispering right in your ear, red lipstick and everything.  Jesus.  She’s gone again just as quickly, and the music is just going up up up, building layers.  There’s something up there, but we have to get there first I guess.  And then Lady Daydream comes in, and it’s pretty clear this is where we had to climb to, it’s like a distant green doll house in the clouds.  But it’s still a ways off and we’re bouncing along soft white to get there while Eric’s guitar glimmers bluely, and the melody beckons cool and soft and sure.  Siren!  So anyway while we’re here we might as well go in.  We ring the bell and sure enough Milk and Honey starts up, announcing our arrival.  INT. DOLL HOUSE IN THE CLOUDS.  Total pandemonium: the living room is packed wall to wall with people but the music is coming from the attic, Gabe’s bass all ceiling-muffled but insistent, and the song soundtracks the seemingly forever it takes us to push through the crowd, up the stairs, through the only door, the music stopping as we hit the threshold, and the gold latch clicks behind us.  The band is on the far side of the room, perfectly silent for a moment.  And then Bryan hits the opening drum fill to All Around and Away We Go, the bass bounces and good god its like a disco fucking dance party in here!  Has it been this way the whole time?  Bring in the orange-lava synths and the barking vocals and then the song is quite literally begging us to come along for the ride.  We oblige with grins ten feet wide.  Four minutes of pure inhibition lowering bliss, and the same drum fill stops what it started.  By now its dark outside.  We stick our heads out of the attic window and survey the silver heavens above.  Galaxy Plateau.  Not a soul in sight out here, but the wind picks up and howls an echo of noise in our ears.  We look this over while the sounds grow and change and fold like aural stop-motion animation.  At a certain point we hear something begin to take shape in the distance, and as we lean out to get a better idea, it finally kicks in and we pitch out of the window into the black.  Dev’s keys and drum machines come into bright focus and Phenomenons scores our tranquil descent into the landscape of a pink morning sky.  I know you might be confused.  “It could all be a dream.”

Well, this is embarrassing. Here I’ve been so caught up in work and life and love, I’ve been neglecting my label news feed. Which is a darn shame, because who knows when this much newsworthy stuff will be happening again? Not sure if Heller thought of that one. Speaking of news, did you know that Twin Sister is going out on tour to see the world? No?! Remember, you’re cordially invited to all of them, not just one.

And the hits just keep on coming.  UK stalwart Rough Trade previously made Survival an “Album of the Week”, and now they’ve called it one of the ten best of ‘09!  Other bands who caught on in the UK before we blockheads in the states figured it out?   Hmmm… Pixies, Galaxie 500… Forest Fire?

    Forest Fire plays with Papercuts!

    September 15th, 2009

One of the more life affirming cases of kismet in recent memory, Forest Fire recently played with Infinite Best faves Papercuts, with the results being documented by the ever-insightful Chryde and co. over at La Blogotheque.  Papercuts new record “You Can Have What You Want” is absolutely gorgeous… I’ve listened to it more than anything else that has come out this year.  I meant to post about this earlier, but the video embed refused to cooperate, sadly… I’ve given up, and posted the link instead.  Ah well, consider it just another excuse to cruise over to La Blogotheque!

    A humble thank you

    August 14th, 2009

We here at Infinite Best would like to take a moment to thank each and every one of you who came out to the show on Monday.  It couldn’t have happened without you, and we’re about as grateful as can be.  As a small token of appreciation, below you’ll find a video of Forest Fire’s first song, “Slow Motion”… the entire performance will be given away as a DVD with pre-release purchases of the vinyl, along with the album mp3s and a bonus digital 7″!  Indeed, we are all about value.

Yep, it’s true. Hungry, Hungry Ghost’s seeringly epic take on Jacko’s “Earth Song” kicks off the Butter x Face tribute to Michael Jackson, Chum Onah: BxF Celebrates the Music of M. Jackson. The phenomenal compilation also features selections from Julian Lynch (”Human Nature,” “Leave Me Alone”), Toro Y Moi (who also covers “Human Nature”), Phil and the Osophers, Dem Hunger and the Underwater People’s house band Family Portrait, killing “Will You Be There,” aka the theme from Free Willy. No better way to celebrate the life of MJ than by digging into Chum Onah.

  • Pre-Order Forest Fire’s Survival

    Pre-Order Forest Fire’s Survival

    August 3rd, 2009

Been a long-time coming but Forest Fire’s Survival is finally available for Pre-Order.That means you, and we do mean YOU, can purchase it as a vintage compact disc, or the much beloved vinyl format, for which there will only be 300. Pretty limited, so don’t miss out on what La Blogotheque dubbed the “Best Album of 2008.” If Catbird’s original pressing is any indication, these will go fast, so act now, as you don’t want to end up being that dude thinking, “Fuck, I knew I should’ve pre-ordered that. Ugh, I hate being stupid.”

Also, in celebration of Infinite Best’s second release and Forest Fire’s return to Brooklyn, the band will play a record release party at Union Hall. The event, presented by the inimitable Chocolate Bobka, will also feature BK-based femme fatale Shilpa Ray, Holograms and special guests. To sum it up, it’s probably going to be the funnest Monday of 2009. Hope to see you there. (Yes, funnest is a word. OK, maybe not. But we don’t care.)
